The Equipment You’ll Need To Brew Your Own Beer From Home
Alright if you’re going to learn how to brew your own beer from home then there’s a few different supplies you’ll need to have in order to make it work. If you’d rather get all the equipment you’d need, all in one shot you can always go for the Coopers Home Brewing Kit which comes with everything in their perfect amounts. If not, well then here’s a basic rundown of what you’d need to get started.
First you need to get your fermenting buckets (some people like to use glass containers). You’ll need two that seal perfectly; one for primary fermentation and one for secondary fermentation. For the first bucket, which will be used for primary fermentation, you’ll need to drill a hole in the lid which will be used to place an airlock. The second bucket, which is used for secondary fermentation, will need a spigot to be drilled and installed 2 inches above the bottom of the bucket for bottling.
Second you need your basic accessories such as siphoning tube, hydrometer, your bottles and capper, and an airlock or fermenting lock. You’ll use the siphoning tube to transfer the beer from container one to container two. The hydrometer is a floating tool that’s placed in the beer to tell you whether the fermentation is complete. You’ll need to bottles obviously to place the beer in and you need a capper tool in order to cap the bottles. Finally, your airlock is the device that goes into the drilled hole on top of the primary fermenting bucket which let’s air out during fermentation but doesn’t let any air or particles in.
Third you’re going to need your basic cleanser. It’s very important to be extremely clean when brewing beer because even the smallest amount of bacteria that makes it into your beer could ruin the taste of your beer. This is known as contamination. So be sure that everything is sanitized using either bleach or a no-rinse cleanser. If you use bleach, be sure to completely wash out all scent of bleach before going ahead with the brewing. If you use a no-rinse cleanser like Star-San, it will be much easier because you don’t have to rinse after sanitizing.
Besides all of the above equipment you’ll need if you’re going to be learning how to brew your own beer, you’ll definitely need the actual ingredients such as the yeast, malt extract, and brewing sugar. This does vary however according to the type of beer you plan on brewing.
If you’re a complete beginner, I again will suggest that you pick up a home brewing kit like the Cooper’s Home Brewing Kit which comes with everything you’ve just read above, easy to follow instructions, and your basic brewing ingredients to easily make your first batch of beer from home. Happy Brewing & Cheers!
